Hangar Construction
In fall of 2018, FHCAM will be opening a third building full of new treasures for our guests to enjoy! Over the next several weeks you will see another project unfolding around the museum- a beautiful glass connector that will link our buildings. The museum will remain open during the construction and we have made every effort to make the process as minimally invasive to our visitors as possible. Stop by and say hello over the next several weeks.
Scholarly Saturdays
February 3 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm Germany's WWII Riesenflugzeuge – The Me 321 and 323 Giganten (Giants): A new class of transport aircraft During WWII, Germany's resources and supply lines were overextended, and the resupply over vast distances in the East and across the Mediterranean became a challenge that would eventually contribute to Germany's downfall. One attempt of the Luftwaffe's Transportgeschwader (transport command) to resolve this challenge was the introduction of the Messerschmitt Me 321 (a transport glider) and the Me 323, a powered version of the glider aircraft with six 1200 hp radial engines. With a wingspan of 180 ft (a Boeing 747 measures 195 ft!), these aircraft were a class by themselves, whose time had not yet come. German born spacecraft propulsion engineer and aviation historian Dr. Dieter M. Zube will return to FHCAM on Saturday, February, 3rd at 2:00 pm to present on the development history, design, performance (or lack thereof) and operational use of these behemoths of the air. Dr. Zube is a graduate of the aerospace engineering department of Germany's Stuttgart University and for more than 20 years has worked as a senior technical staff member on spacecraft propulsion systems at Aerojet Rocketdyne in Redmond, WA. He is an Affiliate Professor at the University of Washington and volunteers as a docent and expert in spaceflight and German aerospace history at the Seattle Museum of Flight. His presentation on the Messerschmitt Giganten will be his fourth presentation at the FHCAM. Scholarly Saturdays are free with paid FHCAM Museum Admission.
Flying Heritage & Combat Armor Museum is a unique cultural attraction of rare military artifacts acquired and restored to working condition by investor and philanthropist Paul G. Allen.
